Terms of service · v2, September 2026
The terms, in plain language
This is the agreement between you and Happy Grieving Limited, the company behind Happy Grieving and Grief Trips, when you use this app. We wrote it to be read.
What this is - and isn't
Happy Grieving is a peer-support community: facilitated Circles, a private journal, resources, and events. It is not therapy, counseling, or medical care, and nothing here is a substitute for them. Facilitators are trained peers, not clinicians. If you are in crisis, use the crisis lines or your local emergency number - the app is not an emergency service.
Who can use it
You must be at least 18. An account is yours alone - don't share sign-in codes or let someone else post as you.
Your words stay yours
You own everything you write here. You give us only the permission needed to store it and show it to exactly who you chose (a private entry to nobody; a shared entry or circle post to your Circle). We don't use your writing for advertising, we don't sell it, and we don't train AI models on it. The privacy policy and how we treat grief data spell out the rest.
Membership and money
The daily prompt, your journal, the resources, the events listing, My Loved Ones and the support lines are free, and stay free. Membership is billed monthly through Stripe, on three levels: Held ($49) opens the toolbox; Together ($159) adds your matched Circle and a buddy; Mentored ($359) adds a thread with Rachel. Every level opens members-only events.
Stopping is one click from the membership page, and no reason is asked for. It takes effect at the end of the month you have already paid for, and you keep that month. Moving between memberships, in either direction, goes through Stripe's own screen, which shows you the exact amount and the date before anything is charged. Nothing moves until you confirm it there.
Deleting your account is different, and worth knowing before you do it: it cancels billing immediately and the rest of a month already paid for is not refunded. If you are part way through a month, stopping your membership first keeps it.
If the price is a barrier, the free list above is the answer and there is nothing to apply for. It is not a trial and it does not run out.
Behavior
The community agreements are part of these terms. Facilitators may remove posts that break them; serious or repeated harm can mean removal from a Circle or the community. Don't scrape, spam, impersonate, or attempt to access anyone else's data.
Leaving
You can delete your account at any time from the account page. Billing is cancelled immediately, without refunding the rest of a month already paid for, and what the app kept on the device you delete from is set aside, then cleared once the account is deleted. Your account is then kept for 14 days, hidden from other members, in case you change your mind (a memorial page you shared by link stays open to whoever has the link, unless you close it): signing in before then lets you keep it, though a membership has to be started again. Until then you can also sign in and download everything in your account as one file. After 14 days your account, journal, dates, memberships, and posts attributed to you are permanently deleted, and can no longer be downloaded or recovered. Nobody will ask you why.
The unavoidable part
We provide the service as-is and can't promise it will always be available or error-free. To the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before a claim. We may update these terms; if a change matters, we'll say so in the app before it takes effect.
Plain language on purpose. Questions: info@grieftrips.com.
